Natural Wood Slab for Resin – Root Flare Form (GS2602006)

GS2602006 is a longitudinal root flare slab that branches into a genuine Y-shape, with grain visibly compressed along the inner curve before easing into lower-density wood toward the outer zones. A touch of hairline checking shows at the terminal edge; the bark itself is holding on well, with just a slight natural gap starting to open along one section. Recovered from Edenvale, Gauteng, 3 February 2026. Field seasoned, MC confirmed at 10–12% on a pin meter reading taken on a sanded surface, 1 March 2026. One piece. Exact item shown.

Specimen Characteristics — GS2602006

This specimen (GS2602006) represents a root-derived section from the GS2602 harvest where grain compression and directional growth create a branching structure. The material shows variation between dense inner zones and more open outer fibre areas, producing a dynamic internal structure across the slab.

Visual Character

  • Root flare structure with directional grain movement
  • Y-shaped branching form with natural asymmetry
  • Dense inner grain zones transitioning to open fibre areas
  • Live-edge bark forming an irregular perimeter
  • Subtle checking at terminal edges

These are natural characteristics of the wood, not defects.

Not recommended for structural applications.

Working With Root-Derived Timber

Root-derived slabs develop under structural stress, producing directional grain flow and density variation. These characteristics influence machining behaviour and finishing response.

For technical reference on wood properties, see The Wood Database.

Timber Origin

Urban salvaged timber from Edenvale, Gauteng, South Africa.

Recovered from a ground stump root system and milled locally as part of the GS2602 harvest.

Natural Material Notice

Variations in grain, colour, and internal structure are inherent to natural timber and reflect the conditions under which the tree developed.
