Wood Cookie Slab for Resin – Hook Form (GS2602003)

GS2602003 is a diagonal C-shaped cross-section with a distinct hook profile, narrowing at one point into a thin structural bridge that forms a natural bottleneck through the piece — handle this one with care, it’s logged fragile rather than stable. No structural cracks have been found despite the bridge, though bark is naturally attached and loose in places. Light tool marks from milling remain visible on the surface. Recovered from Edenvale, Gauteng, 3 February 2026. Field seasoned, MC confirmed at 10–12% on a pin meter reading taken on a sanded surface, 1 March 2026. One piece. Exact item shown.

Specimen Characteristics — GS2602003

This specimen (GS2602003) represents a diagonally cut root section from the GS2602 harvest, forming a hooked geometry with a narrowed structural connection between two masses. Grain flow follows this curvature, creating directional movement and concentrating stress at the bridge section.

Visual Character

  • Irregular hook-shaped cross section with directional movement
  • Radial grain pattern flowing around a narrow bridge section
  • Live-edge bark retained, partially loose at one end
  • Contrast between sapwood and heartwood zones
  • Thin structural bottleneck forming a natural resin channel

These are natural characteristics of the wood, not defects.

Condition: Fragile

This specimen is structurally delicate due to a thin bridge section and may break during handling or machining if unsupported. Stabilisation is required before use.

Suggested Uses

  • Resin casting and void fill applications
  • Decorative wall-mounted pieces
  • Small epoxy table inserts (stabilised)
  • Sculptural or artistic woodworking

The natural geometry makes this piece ideal for transparent resin work where internal structure becomes part of the design.

Stabilisation is required before use.

Not recommended for structural applications.

Working With Root-Derived Timber

Root-derived timber develops under structural stress, producing irregular grain flow and internal variation. In cross-section cuts, these characteristics appear as radial grain movement and localised structural features.

Fragile zones such as thin bridges should be stabilised before machining or resin work.

For technical reference on wood properties, see The Wood Database.

Timber Origin
